I heard on the radio that the next poet laureate (the honorary position of royal family's "pet" poet effectively) is to be chosen by the public. Now, don't get me wrong, as I'm all for interactive media, but isn't this either a.) a cheap publicity stunt or b.) taking things just that little bit too far. What next can we expect? 'Archbishop Factor'? Ten 'popular' clergy from around the nation battle it out, goaded on by a panel of religious know-it-alls, ultimately to be determined by a expensive phone vote, to become the next Archbishop of Canterbury?
If so, my money's on John Sergeant!
